Simon Fraser University Pipe Band World Champions

Many congratulations to the Simon Fraser University (SFU) Pipe Band for the award of World Champions at the World Pipe Bank Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in August of 2026. It is the first time since 2010 that a bank from outside the United Kingdom won the World Championship, when the SFU band last won the title.

The ‘Worlds,’ renowned as the pinnacle of the global piping calendar, brought together the best pipers and drummers on the planet, 211 bands from 14 countries, to compete in this prestigious music competition. It is the seventh time the SFU band has won the competition. They are one of just four bands outside the UK to ever take the top spot, making this an extraordinary achievement.

The SFU band includes musicians from all walks of life – teachers, engineers, lawyers, tradespeople, SFU students, and others. These amazing musicians commit a tremendous amount of time to practice and rehearse. The SFU Pipe Band Society is the musical ambassador for SFU and includes the SFU Pipe Band and the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band, a youth development program that helps aspiring pipers and drummers advance their skills.
